It starts with the subterranean buzz of "Real Power," which evokes the direct and crystalline sound of some of their illustrious Ohio compatriots. Then it descends into the vortex of "Dog," a piece that slowly unwinds before exploding with a blistering elegance, culminating in a glorious triumph of guitar feedback. The title track, "The Beat Goes On," features a driving rhythm and an atmosphere that recalls more classic sounds.
